ArcView 3.3 for Windows
ArcView 3.3 is the starting point to use
and to learn GIS by ESRI. It has an easy and intuitive user interface. Once
GIS data
has been imported and edited, you can perform three key information
functions:
- Data display
- Data query
- Data analysis
ESRI designed ArcView with the concept
that the majority of users will not be interested in GIS data
manipulation. They want to use the data to perform management
functions as an information system, hence GIS (Geographic Information
System.) Thus, a few technical ArcInfo users may create and edit
the data themes while 100s more will use the data as a management
tool. This is not to imply data editing isn't possible with
ArcView, only that most users will be interested in it as a management
tool There are several ArcView extensions.
What are the basic features of
ArcView?
- High quality mapping
- Geographic and tabular data editing
- Spatial analysis
- Geocoding
- Multiple data integration
- Customization with Avenue
- Map projections
- Tabular analysis
- Image integration
Finally, a most important consideration
for private companies, local, state, and Federal governments is data
exchange and compatibility. Users find ArcView shape files have
become the standard format for moving data between agencies and
business.
