ArcView 9.2
ArcGIS 9.2 is a
stand-alone GIS as well s the entry point to ArcGIS, an integrated and
scalable family of GIS software products. ArcGIS consists of
ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo, ArcIMS, and ArcSDE. ArcView 9.2 maintains
the base functionality of ArcView 3.x and adds a host of improvements
driven by user requests. (See Comparing ArcView 3 to ArcView 9) New features include a catalog for browsing and managing
data, on-the-fly coordinate and datum projection, metadata creation,
customization with built-in VBA, new editor tools, support for static
annotation, enhanced cartographic tools, direct access to Internet data,
and much more.
ArcGIS 9.2 consists of three desktop
applications: ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox. They are
designed to work together to provide a rich and extensible suite of GIS
capabilities that enable you to perform any GIS task. Each
application bring special functions to ArcGIS 9.1:
ArcMap - The central applications
in the ArcGIS desktop. It is used for all map-based tasks
including cartography, map analysis and editing. ArcMap is used for data
visualization, data integration, data creation, spatial analysis, and
quality map creation.
ArcCatalog - This application
helps you to organize and manage all of your GIS data. It is used
to browse and preview data, data management, metadata creation and
management, data organization, and data search.
ArcToolbox - This applications
contains 36 tools for data conversion and management including data
import and export, and projections and datum transformations.
